Students handle the basic operations of Park Avenue Records. The executive board consists of the president, and the directors of directors of marketing, artist management, recording operation, production, legal operations, and finance, all of who report to the president of the company. Students are eligible for officer positions after one semester of involvement in the company or in special circumstances by appointment.

A faculty advisor serves as the liaison between the Executive Board and the General Advisory Board. The faculty advisor helps secure support from the University and outside sources. The faculty advisor convenes regularly with the executive board to ensure integration between the operations of Park Avenue Records with the educational missions of the University, and to ensure compliance with the University and Board of Regents.

Park Avenue Records also profits from the advice of a team of industry and academic professionals, some of whom have as much as 50 years of experience with the recording and entertainment industry. The Instructional Advisory Team consists of local faculty and staff. The General Advisory Board includes industry luminaries such as Gary LeMel, President of Warner Records and David MacKay.

PAR Mission & Goals

THE DREAM

Park Avenue Records (PAR) is one of only a few student-run record labels in the nation. PAR decided to become a competitive jazz record label with a reputation of excellence with the intention to revive jazz back to the forefront of the American music scene. PAR not only supports the artists, but also allows other students to gain professional experience in the music industry through internships.

PAR looks to provide students interested in the music and entertainment industry with education and work experience in all aspects of the business operations of a commercial recording company. This includes, but is not limited to: production, marketing, promotion, rights management, licensing and publication. The company looks to continually explore options for using new technology in the creation, production and distribution processes. PAR will function under the operational guidelines of the University of Arizona and the Arizona Board of Regents. The student-run company will receive guidance from faculty, staff and an advisory board of industry experts but students will control the business operations of the enterprise.

GOALS

  • Produce a successful, competitive jazz record label with a reputation of excellence.
  • Allow students to gain professional experience as contracted recording artists, producers and in executive positions.
  • Provide students with industry internship opportunities.
  • Develop the ability to offer incoming talented students recording contracts and opportunities as an incentive to come to the University of Arizona.
  • Use the label as a collaborative, professional endeavor for the College of Fine Arts and throughout the University of Arizona.
  • Become self-sustaining as an enterprise both as a mark of success but also to eliminate any strain on already taxed university resources.
  • Generate an environment where students are allowed to grow, explore and learn about the music industry.
