Katherine Byrnes' self titled album will be released in October 2006. Returning from her studies with Anne Phillips in New York, Katherine is going into her senior year as an undergraduate Vocal Jazz major at the University of Arizona. Performing in and around Tucson since the age of five, Byrnes was involved with the performing group Kids Unlimited for five years, and taught it for three. Katherine Byrnes also started the show choir Change of Pace at Catalina Foothills High School and choreographed it for two years. Having performed in her high school productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Cabaret, Oklahoma, Bye Bye Birdie, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Much Ado About Nothing, Katherine Byrnes has also performed with the Gaslight Theatre, The Actor’s Theatre, and SALOC between 1995-1999. She has also performed as Pearl at Hidden Valley Inn’s Dinner Theatre from 1999 to 2003. In addition, Byrnes has choreographed and performed some of Hidden Valley Inn’s Christmas shows.
Katherine is quickly becoming adept to the world of jazz. Developing a range and depth well beyond her years, she has taken her experience as a student of the stage and applied it to jazz performance. Studying under the direction of Anne Phillips and Jeff Haskell she has been able to combine her musical theatre background with jazz. As a previous member of Vocal Ease, an all female acapella group at the University of Arizona and as a current vocalist for the University of Arizona Recording Studio Combo, she continues to develop her skills. |
