While jazz represents a relatively small market in comparison to the monster
genres of rock, rap, and pop, jazz represents a more accessible genre to this
endeavor because it is not fully controlled by the major record labels. Recording
jazz presents an opportunity to take advantage of the strong support for jazz
in both Tucson and Phoenix, and throughout the state of Arizona. The strong presence
of the Tucson Jazz Society, the educational emphasis at the University of Arizona,
even programming patterns of KUAT and UA Presents confirm an established interest
in jazz. The opportunity to build new audiences piggybacking on educational outreach
already underway makes jazz a particularly attractive focus. |
